GATE/SAS
At Haynes Charter for Enriched Studies, we proudly offer a Students for Advanced Studies (SAS) program at all grade-levels. As an official LAUSD SAS site, our program is designed to meet the unique needs of gifted and high-achieving learners through enriched, engaging, and rigorous instruction that encourages academic excellence and personal growth.
How Our School Differs From Other Elementary SAS Programs
Our SAS program is thoughtfully structured to group students by academic readiness within each grade level for Language Arts and Math. By offering a designated SAS class and a general education class at each grade level, we create opportunities for like-minded learners to engage in meaningful collaboration, advanced content exploration, and differentiated instruction. This structure allows our teachers to tailor their lessons to meet the needs of their students more effectively—challenging our SAS students with higher-level thinking tasks while still nurturing the potential of all learners.
Importantly, SAS is not about more homework or extra worksheets. Instead, it’s about taking a deeper dive into the curriculum. Our SAS students explore core subjects through the lens of critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and inquiry-based learning. They participate in complex discussions, investigate real-world issues, and work on open-ended projects that inspire intellectual curiosity and academic independence.
At Haynes CES, our goal is to ensure that every SAS student feels challenged, motivated, and inspired—not through volume, but through depth, relevance, and rigor. We foster a love of learning and empower our students to become thoughtful leaders and lifelong learners.
