Fifth Grade at Haynes CES

Fifth grade at Haynes Charter for Enriched Studies is a dynamic and enriching capstone year that blends academic challenge, hands-on learning, and leadership development to prepare students for middle school and beyond. Students are assigned to a homeroom teacher and rotate between classrooms for the core subjects of Language Arts and Math giving them a middle school-style experience within the nurturing environment of elementary school.

Our program features leveled instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of our learners, including a designated School for Advanced Studies (SAS) class that offers deeper exploration through critical thinking, inquiry, and project-based learning. Students complete independent passion projects, serve as student council leaders, and take part in learning traditional colonial dances and explore American history through immersive activities.

Fifth-grade students also enjoy a rich variety of field trips that bring learning to life, including visits to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Griffith Observatory, Pantages Theatre, Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Riley’s Farm, where students participate in an interactive Revolutionary War reenactment. We also have a culminating "Camp Day" trip to Brandise.

This blend of rigorous academics, creative expression, and real-world experiences ensures that our students leave Haynes CES as confident, curious, and capable learners ready to thrive in middle school and beyond.
