Governing Charter Document

What is a School Charter and Why is it Important?

A school charter is a formal agreement between a charter school and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). It outlines the school’s mission, educational goals, academic programs, and governance structure, while also holding the school accountable for student achievement. This document serves as both a strategic plan and a performance contract, ensuring that the school remains focused on delivering high-quality instruction and meeting the needs of its students.

Haynes Charter for Enriched Studies is proud to be a charter school with a unique educational model written directly into our charter. What makes Haynes special is our commitment to academic differentiation through leveled instruction across grade levels, including our School for Advanced Studies (SAS) classes. These structures are designed to challenge all learners by meeting them at their level, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and deeper understanding of the curriculum.

Our charter allows us the flexibility to design innovative programs that support enrichment and inclusion while staying aligned with LAUSD and state standards. It is reviewed and renewed every five years with input from our school community to ensure we continue to grow, improve, and serve our students effectively.
